A Spring Tea Party was sponsored by the Retail Division of the Union City Chamber of Commerce.  Everyone was invited to come dressed for the occasion including spring hats and gloves.

The afternoon started with several demonstrations from local vendors and home party consultants.  A favorite was a hand massage treatment courtesy of Just For You.

Following a light lunch that was served by the High School’s National Honor Society, Eleanor Geer, of Lincolnville, presented her “Hats Through the Years”.  Eleanor owned hats from three centuries and came with more than 100 hats for guests to view.  Her collection at one time topped 3,500 hats.  Eleanor graciously allowed several models to wear her hats as she shared the story on how she acquired it.  It was over 40 years ago that Eleanor, now 85, gave her first hat show at the Lincolnville Baptist Church.

Her hat wearing advice to us was:  “Always wear a hat tilted slightly to the left so that you can just see a little of the brim when you roll your eye up.”

Proceeds from the day will towards the Union City Beautification Fund.  The first project we are raising money for is to purchase Welcome banners.  The banners will be displayed along Main Street.  As the funds grow we would like to spread the banners out of just the downtown area and line the main routes in and out of Union City.

The day was a huge success with approximately 120 in attendance.  We raised $1200 for the Beautification Fund.
