WOA “Women of Action” Team In September of 2004 we found ourselves in the Corry Higher Education’s Leadership Class needing to find a project. We had a discussion on what was needed in our community. Since losing the local paper, it is harder to get the word out as to what is happening around town. The beginning of our brainstorming began with how much a community calendar is needed, but we needed to decide on a method of making it accessible to everyone in the community That is how we came up with the idea of a Community Website that will be hosted and maintained by the Union City Chamber of Commerce. Our hope is that you will be able to come here to get your questions answered. What is there to do? What time is that event? Who do I contact with my questions? The Chamber office is only open from 9-1 Monday thru Thursday but you might need the answer after the office is closed. Think community calendar on the Community Website! Our slogan has become “Are you at the mall?” During one of our initial brainstorming meetings we seemed to be having some difficulty agreeing on what the site should be like. Taking it to terms that an all girl team would understand in an instant the conversation went something like this. “It should be like going to Kohl’s, I can shop in the kids section, the men’s section or the woman’s section.” But someone else’s idea was that they saw the site as “It should be like shopping at the mall. All the stores under one roof and then inside each of those stores you can go to each department.” WOA Team Members: Abbe Biebel was the Union City Chamber Manager. She was hired in early 2004 thinking she was getting a desk job. She now knows her title of Manager also comes with the title Head of Fundraising! Becky Glenn is a member of the Union City Chamber Board of Directors. As a life long member of the community she has been involved in many fundraisers and volunteers faithfully whenever her services are needed. Kaylynn Ostergard is also a member of the Union City Chamber Board of Directors. Since moving to Union City she has become actively involved in chamber fundraisers and has recently joined the Union City Family Support Center Board of Directors. Becky Stuart is the Union City School District Business Manager and was chosen as the leader of the WOA Team. Being involved with the school system she is very familiar with fundraisers and planning. |
